I'm so excited to be writing this series - you'll find ideas (something for everyone) for making your Advent and Christmas seasons more merry through great books, movies, music, activities, and a special faith section (with free printables!) to help focus your thoughts on the greatest gift of all.
Here in the Healy Household, we're still determining our special family traditions, but they'll revolve around these five topics that I'll be highlighting each day beginning the first day of Advent and continuing through the twelfth day of Christmas.
All of the music comes straight from my holiday playlist and the books are all favorites from our home library, but a few of the first few days of movies aren't usually in our regular rotation. They are all movies I've seen and that people I know and love enjoy, so I've used these suggestions to help fill out all the days.
We always do a few of the activities I'll be sharing (especially those revolving around food), some we do just if we're in the mood or have extra time, but they're all sure to provide fodder for your brain as you dream up your own special family traditions.
The faith section's daily themes are loosely based on the Jesse Tree concept. I've never taken part in that Advent observance myself, but the idea has intrigued me ever since I came across it last year. I discovered a variety of symbols and verses being used in this practice, so I combined them all into my own standard list for each day, melded with ways that Jesus fulfilled the Law (Matthew 5:17).
I have thoughts about projects and crafts and songs that could go along with each day's focus, but this will not be the year for those. Instead, I hope to use each theme as a meditation point to go along with the daily Advent readings.
We'll see where that path leads us.
